Out of Zone Enrolments
Each year the board will determine the number of places likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the zone. The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community paper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.
If there are more applications than places available, applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority.
- This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary of Education.
- Will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.
- Will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
- Will be given to applicants who are children of board employees will be given to all other applicants
If there are more applicants in the second, third, or fourth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary of Education under Section 11 G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulation in the area served by the school.
Boys' Only/Girls' Only Class option:
Napier Intermediate offers parents the opportunity to enrol their child into a Boys' Only class or a Girls' Only class. At present this option is available as a composite class option, (both Year 8 and Year 7 students in one class), this single sex option may not suit all learners.
2011/2012 are trial years to gauge whether this option is suitable for some of our learners. Data collected around student achievement and student engagement will be anaylsed and future programmes of learning will be designed from this data.
