Technology and Arts

The students are mixed into two groups across two classes. These groups participate in technology and arts programme run over the year.

The students attend technology twice a week for three weeks and arts once a week for three weeks. These are undertaken over the year.


Visual Arts  

Visual Arts

Each term the focus changes depending upon what the whole school focus is. The children are grouped in a mix of Year 7 and Year 8s. The children are encouraged to work in small groups to discuss, design, and develop art under a big umbrella idea.
(A specialist Art teacher takes this programme.)


Food Technology and Soft Materials

 

Food Technology and Soft Materials

Napier Intermediate run a two year programme, alternating food technology and soft materials.

Food Technology
The students learn about food hygiene and how to prepare and cook using a recipe.

Soft Materials
The students learn about the planning process, using sewing machines, and construction.


Hard Materials

 

Hard Materials

The emphasis in hard materials is on the planning process.

The students draft and design their piece of work, gaining experience using a variety of tools. The students work towards completing a finished product.


Performing Arts

Performing Arts

Conventions of the performing arts are explored in their year groups. A teacher from each house takes a four week unit of each performing arts.

Dance
Students explore the different types of dance from line dancing to hip-hop.

Drama
The students explore space, body awareness, and expression through a variety of drama games and activities. The students are able to use what they've learnt and extend their learning in the school production every two years.

Music
The students explore sound, rhythm, and pitch through a variety of musical instruments and activities.(A specialist Music teacher takes this programme.)


Languages Other Than English  

Languages Other Than English (LOTE)

The students explore the different cultures and languages of the world. Learning how to say simple greetings, ask questions, and count.

2011 languages are French and German.
2012 languages are Spanish and Japanese.

 

 

Science

Studnets will explore how to work safely, behave ethically, report results and procedures clearly and honestly, present evidence that is credible and work collaboratively.
