Each classroom programme is centred around the needs and interests of the children.

Each term there is a school focus. The students discuss what each mean and how it applies to them within the class, school, and community.

Digital Classroom

Digital Classrooms

As we progress through into a digital world, Napier Intermediate is upgrading the technology to make a more interactive digital classroom.

 Interactive Whiteboard

Interactive Whiteboard (IWB)

An interactive whiteboard makes use of a board and a data projector. The students are able to use a tablet or pens on the board to write and draw straight onto the board. The IWB are used in the same ways as the classroom projectors.

The children have been experimenting with the interactive whiteboard and discovering what it is capable of doing.

The IWB has been used in a number of ways:

  • Pairs explored the menu on the board and shared new discoveries
  • Numeracy problem solving strategies using electronic pens
  • Searching the internet
  • Photograph displays

Discovery and experimentation is on going.

Information Communication Technology

Information Communication Technology (ICT)

Each classroom has three to five classroom computers where the students are able to work on during classroom time.

Each House has a CoW unit (Computers on Wheels) which is a small moveable unit with 16 mini laptops, that are booked by the classroom teachers. These are used apart of the classroom programme.

Three times a term a specialist ICT teacher takes each class through a variety of computer skills.

Students are able to book and use school digital cameras, Flips, and the school's digital video cameras to enhance their learning, using Microsoft Power Point and Movie Maker to make presentations and short films.
